Pigtail Macaque For Sale – Buy Macaque Pigtail Online !

Pigtail Macaque For Sale searches often refer to Macaca nemestrina, a Southeast Asian macaque recognized by its short, pig-like tail. It is a highly social, intelligent primate requiring specialized care and appropriate legal permits.

Definition & Characteristics

The pigtail macaque is an Old World monkey found mainly in tropical forests.

LSI: northern pigtail macaque, southern pigtail macaque, Chinese pigtail macaque
Males: about 6.2–14.5 kg
Females: about 4.7–10.9 kg
Lifespan: roughly 26 years in the wild; captive records approach 35 years.

Behavior & Aggression

Pigtail macaques live in multi-male, multi-female groups with strong dominance hierarchies. Aggression can occur over rank, food, mating, or group membership.

Why Do Female Pigtail Macaques Have Big Bumps?

The prominent swelling is an anogenital swelling associated with estrus, signaling reproductive condition to males.

Diet & Size

What does a pigtail macaque eat? Primarily fruits, plus leaves, seeds, insects, fungi, and other foods.

Reproduction

Gestation: approximately 162–186 days. Females usually give birth to one infant and nurse for around 8–12 months.

Age Progression & Mothering

Infants are born black, develop adult coloration during infancy, become adolescents after one year, and reach female reproductive maturity around three years. Mothers provide most infant care. Claims that pigtails are universally “better mothers” than long-tailed macaques are not established by these sources.

Adoption & Hybridization

Females may show strong social interest in infants, including offspring within their group, but adoption of unrelated monkeys is not a universal behavior. Reliable evidence also does not establish routine mating or hybridization with long-tailed macaques.
